MSSES begins the admissions process for graduate and retraining programmes

  • 23.05.2022

On 16 May, MSSES will begin the admissions process for graduate and professional retraining programmes.

MSSES (Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences) is a non-state university founded by sociologist Teodor Shanin. For over 25 years, we have been training successful specialists in the field of social and political sciences, cultural management, media, history, psychology, and law.

Graduates of Master’s programmes receive a state diploma, and graduates of professional retraining programmes receive a Master of Arts diploma (University of Manchester, UK).

Specificities of studying in MSSES

MSSES teachers are researchers and practitioners who feel passionate about what they do

Our teachers are researchers who are actively managing their own projects. They are a part of the international academic community: they’ve been published in international journals, they have PhDs, and they have undergone internships in foreign universities. A good professor has to be an active researcher, and good researchers always discuss their current projects with their students.

The second category of MSSES teachers is professionals who have significant practical experience. They conduct practical disciplines and share their own cases and current agenda with the students.

Flexible programme that allows students to choose what they want to study

Only a portion of courses in the curricula of all graduate programmes is mandatory. Students select the rest of the courses from a large list of electives. It allows us to design the programme in a way that would best meet our students’ professional and academic interests.

Convenient schedule that allows students to combine work and studies

Classes on all graduate and retraining programmes take place on weekdays from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm and on Saturdays at no earlier than 10.40 am. Students have 3 to 5 classes every week on average.

Original research essays instead of oral exams

At the end of each course, MSSES students write research essays on the subject they select on their own through consultations with their teachers. This system eliminates simple memorisation of the lecture material. It focuses on problematisation of the studied field and development of the students’ own views in a topical debate.

Students and teachers are colleagues

In MSSES classrooms, students and teachers form equal partner relationships. Teachers are always open for consultations. Studying in MSSES presents an opportunity to engage in a lively and respectful dialogue with true professionals and people who love what they do.

Modern campus in the heart of Moscow

MSSES campus is located in the heart of Moscow, 300 metres from the Kremlin.

A modern library, comfortable coworking space, open classrooms, computer room, café, and space for recreation and communication – everything one might need for pleasant and effective studying. All the students are free to use the library hall, which is good for both focused studying in solitude and a lively dialogue with colleagues. We have everything you need for work here.

The library collection comprises the best books on disciplines taught in MSSES as well as humanities as a whole in English and Russian languages. The collection is regularly updated: faculty deans and programme managers select the books for the library based on the teachers’ and students’ requests as well as current trends. All the books are publicly available in the reading hall.
