Library

The library collection compiles the best books on the disciplines taught at MSSES and on humanities in general – both in English and Russian. The collection is regularly updated: faculty deans and programme managers select the books for the library based on the teachers’ and students’ requests as well as current trends. All the books are publicly available in the study hall.

The library is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 10 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm.

Classrooms

All the classrooms in Shaninka have transparent walls, which allow the visitors to observe the classes for any programme at any time and join the open lectures if they so wish.

The School has a room equipped with Gesell glass (mirror on one side and transparent tinted glass on the other). That room is used for the psychologists’ practice sessions where they sharpen their skills in counselling.

The campus also has a computer class that provides all the professional software one might need for work.

By the way, all the classrooms are named after great philosophers and thinkers chosen by Shaninka students and graduates through voting: Kant, Marx, Bourdieu, Heidegger, Wittgenstein (early and later), and many others. Our teachers explained why those were the names that appeared on the classroom doors.

Accessible Environment

Infrastructure for physically challenged people: doorways to classrooms have no thresholds or elevation differences; the campus provides ramps and two lifts for people with reduced mobility as well as Braille keyboards and stereo headphones; contrasting markings were applied for the visually impaired. All the direction indicators and signs were replicated in Braille. The campus also provides a place for a guide dog.

Space for Independent Work

The library has a comfortable co-working space with everything one might need for studying: computers, printers, scanners, Wi-Fi, sockets, and comfortable and movable tables and chairs.

Meeting Rooms

The library is also equipped with two meeting rooms for interviews, meetings, and individual consultations with teachers.

Recreational Area

Shaninka provides comfortable chairs and sofas for relaxation and communication. There’s a bookcrossing area where Shaninka residents can exchange books with each other. There is also a coffee machine and a water cooler – for ‘conversations by the cooler’, of course.

Food & Dining

On the first floor, there’s the Bodry Kot cafe that offers hot meals, pastries, snacks, and drinks. There is also a dining hall on the premises. Shaninka library has vending machines with full meals. It also has a water cooler and coffee machine with grain coffee.

First Aid

In case of emergency, Shaninka students may go to DOCTOR 2000, a medical centre located on the 3rd floor.
